Harris Regional Hospital and Swain Community Hospital Name 2016 Mercy Award Winner
April 21, 2016
Sylva, NC (April 21, 2016) – Harris Regional Hospital and Swain Community Hospital, which are part of LifePoint Health, recently announced that Sherri Watterson has been recognized as the hospitals’ 2016 Mercy Award winner. Watterson is one of roughly 70 other recipients across LifePoint Health, a leading healthcare company that employs more than 46,000 individuals.
The annual Mercy Award program was established in 2002 to honor the life of Scott Mercy, LifePoint’s founding chairman and chief executive officer (CEO). It recognizes one employee from each of LifePoint’s 72 healthcare facilities, and the Health Support Center based in Brentwood, Tenn., who profoundly touches the lives of others and best represents the spirit and values on which the company was founded. The Mercy Award is considered the highest honor a LifePoint employee can receive.
“At Harris Regional Hospital and Swain Community Hospital we share LifePoint’s commitment to making communities healthier, and we realize that the hard work and dedication of our employees is critical to our success,” said Steve Heatherly, CEO of Harris Regional Hospital and Swain Community Hospital. “Every day, Sherri goes above and beyond to demonstrate a level of care and compassion that we want every person who enters our facilities to experience. We are extremely proud to recognize Sherri for her efforts on behalf of our patients and our community.”
Sherri is a physical therapy assistant and certified lymphedema therapist working in the Rehabilitation Services department at Harris Regional Hospital. Nominated by her peers, she was selected as the hospitals’ winner for her commitment to helping her patients and others in the community remove barriers to attaining their best health. She does this in the hospital by advocating for patients and families within a patient’s care plan, and in the community by coaching young runners in the sport of cross-country.
Each hospital winner, including Sherri will be considered for LifePoint’s 2016 company-wide Mercy Award. The company-wide winner will be announced this summer and honored during a special ceremony in Nashville, Tenn., in August, to which Sherri and all hospital winners are invited to attend.
