Harris Regional Hospital welcomes Jarred Tanksley, MD to Harris Regional Cancer Center

Harris Regional Hospital is pleased to welcome Dr. Jarred Tanksley to Harris Regional Cancer Center. Dr. Tanksley joins David S. Thomas, MD in providing radiation oncology services to western North Carolina.
Dr. Tanksley completed a residency in radiation oncology at Duke University Medical Center, where he served as chief resident. Dr. Tanksley completed an internship in internal medicine at the University of Tennessee Medical Center after receiving his medical degree from Vanderbilt University where he additionally earned a doctorate in cell and developmental biology.
“This is an exciting time for Harris Regional Cancer Center in Sylva,” said Steve Heatherly, CEO of Harris Regional Hospital and Swain Community Hospital. “We are welcoming Dr. Tanksley as we complete a significant addition to the cancer center here in Jackson County which features the latest technology in radiation therapy and a newly renovated space to enhance the comfort of patients.”
Harris Regional Cancer Center has served the region for decades, providing radiation therapy to patients facing a cancer diagnosis. The addition and renovation began in 2019 and includes new imaging and treatment modalities that will serve patients close to home with state-of-the-art technology.
“Dr. Tanksley’s impeccable training will benefit generations of patients in western North Carolina. We are fortunate to have Dr. Tanksley in our community and grateful that he chose Harris Regional Cancer Center as the place where he wants to practice and provide care to patients,” said Dr. Thomas who also serves as chair of the Board of Trustees for Harris Regional Hospital and Swain Community Hospital.
